Sydney Festival - Air Play
21 Jan — 25 Jan 2020
Roslyn Packer Theatre
Two siblings journey through an airy landscape, transforming the ordinary into objects of uncommon beauty. Fabrics dance in the wind, balloons have a mind of their own, confetti turns into the stars of the night sky, and an enormous canopy of hovering silk changes the siblings’ lives forever.
Air Play is the result of years of experimentation with simple materials, movement and technology. Created by husband-and-wife team Seth Bloom and Christina Gelsone, with kinetic sculptor Daniel Wurtzel, Air Play blends family-friendly comedy, circus and theatre into a visual poem constructed of images seemingly sewn from the sky. You’ll gasp in wonder and laugh until it hurts at larger-than-life balloons, flying umbrellas, giant kites floating over the audience and the biggest snow globe you’ve ever seen.
